Hi Team,
Let's kick off this post for all those brave athletes who raced in last weeks 1/2 Ironman in the UAE under the Dubai tri Club banner. Due to heavy fog the race was turned into a 5k-90-21km event. A brutal hot day with many athletes entering into the initial stages of sever dehydration. Not a pleasant sight at all and I am sure we will all learn the importance of hydrating out on the course and providing adequate fuel out on the run. A great day though for the team with Liz Mercer taking overall victory and both our teams placing on the podium. Liz was entering the danger zone out there with severe cramps due to lack of salts on the course and was so courageous holding off Ruth Tucker who was chasing hard. It was a great battle between those girls and we all look forward to their next encounter. From there we had Jan, Clint, Paul and Stuart rounding out the top 12 with Robby, Jean Marie and Arjen also racing well. The race had a few problems with drafting with quite a few from the team being singled out. This was a little unfair as there were some huge packs that needed to be policed. The team paid for it last week though with our Team time trials though and i will do my best as a coach to make sure the team are riding fair. I guess it will be up to the organiser and other athletes to keep it clean as Team Tri2aspire have been warned. 20 years in this sport and the drafting debate continues, I believe the UAE needs to have its race directors explain in detail exactly what drafting rule they are following and make sure their are trained marshalls policing it.
Next event on the calander for the UAE athletes will be the infamous Mercure Challenge Duathlon at Jabil Hafeet on the 27th February. Please go to the link on events tab and enter through email.
On another note, the Tri2aspire World Ironman Craig Alexander weekend is in the final stages of development and the Westin 5 star hotel will play host to this truly unique event March 26th-28th. This is strictly limited to 30 athletes and it should be noted that although the camp has sold out, there is a waiting list in place. Once full details are in place there will be a registration and payment before final acceptance, this will be confirmed within the week.
Until next week,
Safe training,
Jason
